Every rolled product measured, at line speed
Non-contact profile measurement for rolled products from rebar to rails and beams, verified against your reference data.

Dimensional deviations go unnoticed
Rolling forces, thermal expansion, and roll wear change the geometry of your product continuously. Conventional inspection cannot keep up.
Manual inspection is slow. Gauges and calipers take an operator off the line for every measurement, and two operators rarely arrive at the same number.
Sampling leaves gaps. Off-line checks cover a fraction of production, so a deviation that appears between samples runs through to the next stage unchecked.
Complaints arrive late. By the time a customer reports a geometry problem, the cost is scrap, rework, and a claim against a delivery you have already shipped.

Every deviation on screen, in real time
ORION measures the profile of every rolled product continuously and without contact. The geometry is checked against your own reference data while the product is still in the line.
No operator, no gauge. The measurement runs automatically and without contact, so nobody steps onto the line and the result no longer depends on who takes it.
Full length, every piece. ORION measures continuously instead of sampling, so there is no gap between checks for a deviation to hide in.
On screen while it matters. Results appear at the viewing station during production, early enough to correct the mill rather than sort the product afterwards.
Nominal dimensions and the rolling defects that go with them
ORION evaluates every cross-section against your reference geometry and reports both the dimensions and the classical rolling defects relevant to the product type.

Free-form measurement against a reference profile you define
Optical measurement since the 1990s
Teragon develops laser measurement technology for steel rolling mills in close partnership with Hexagon | NEXTSENSE. First profile measurement system in 1995, first combined OSIRIS system in 2016.
Which configuration fits your line?
Share your product type, cross section, line speed, and temperature, and our sales team will scope the right ORION system with you.
How does ORION differ from OSIRIS?
ORION uses the same OSIRIS platform, configured for profile measurement only.
Which measuring field do I need?
It depends on your largest cross section; we help size it during scoping.
How long does evaluation take?
Results appear instantly at the viewing station as the product passes.
Can ORION connect to our Level-2 system?
Yes, through the standard database interface; deeper integration is optional.
